Laptop running slow
#1
My laptop has decided to run slow, but only when,

A - it recovers from hibernation,

B - sometimes when I plug in the power lead,

If I restart it runs fine again, if I shut down and turn it on it always runs fine.

Any ideas? Its running Vista.
its multi core, I've read that XP sometimes had a problem with multi core processers.

is the hdd being accessed whilst running slow?

Take a look at task manager usage to see what is hogging the cpu

PS- Vista is a piece of shit

meh, drop it off with me, I'll wipe it and re-install Win 7 on it for you.

hmmmmmm, is there a way I can back up programs, or would I have to re-install them one by one again?

we can back up your user state (so that will keep all your files) and re-install that after, but programs would need to be re-installed - I can't imagine you have a massive number of programs surely ?

nope, probably not, but I'm so lazy,

then again, if it cures this problem then I suppose it needs doing,

It'll take longer than that, best to leave it with me on Tuesday night and I'll do it along with other things while im in the office - would be ready to be back to you on Friday eve.

kkkkkkkk,
may have second thoughts though as I have some programmes that I've no idea what the serial numbers are so would have to re-buy them.

got it back from muppet with windows 7 ultimate installed (I presume this is the best version!)
Thanks,

Recovered my game collection with no hassle, BUT it still ran slow when I recovered from hibernation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only tried it once, so will do it again to make sure it wasn't a one off but very annoying !

no idea, I didn't try that.

It was a complete new install though, wiped partitions etc and even upgraded the bios to newest version ....

google and download cpu-z

open cpu-z , note figures in red box (see pic)

put into hibernation

wake up computer, compare figures

We can then see if the mb is altering the clock or multipler when coming out of hibernation
