various films
#1
ive been catching up on a great deal of films this past few months while working away into the small hours so in no particular order:

The Smurfs - crap didn't bother watching past the first 20mins Smurfette has been made ugly, the puppet variants Gargamel used in the first 20mins were better characters than the CGI

Green Lantern - really enjoyed, dont care what the expert reviewers say (usually something about it being for 12 year olds, poorly written, flat characters, not true to the comic etc) i like it therefore i must be 12. Its not meant to be the fucking Shawshank Redemption its a comic book movie

Thor - i thought it wasnt as well connected as the above but i'd actually rate it higher than the Green Lantern. Again its a comic book movie so expect a comic book film for 12 year olds.

The Devil's Double - excellent, i dont know whether its meant to be accurate or inspired fiction based on reality. It certainly fits the bill of what we would believe as western folk reading/watching in our media and thus was an enjoyable portrayal to watch.

Final Destination 5 - more of the same didnt bring anything new to the concept dont know why i expected it to but for me it meant it was shit. Perhaps if it had been a good 10 years and this was a reboot i would have liked it but it wasnt so i didnt.

Unknown - excellent, concept, acting, script etc just a proper film all round not some classic oscar winner but just a fucking good film

Killer Elite - Concept should have been a winner for me but everything else about it just failed so i switched it off after 30-40mins

Mega mind - i dont want to compare it to the likes of Shrek, toys story, monsters inc but its an animation so it always will be in which case it falls short on many levels. On its own though not compared its a good easy and well done animation that gets down marked unfairly for not being one of the big guns

Paul - mixed bag i wanted to like it but think to much exposure had lead to me knowing all the gags or certainly being able to see the gags coming a mile off. Still enjoyable and Paul was really well scripted and definitely what the little grey men should be like should they ever visit

Inbetweeners - i do like the series but this was dreadful, perhaps it was meant to seem like it was hashed together but the script was way below par and so for me they were just cashing in on the popularity of the show. One to miss stick with the series repeats instead.

The Smurfs - Not seen - so thanks for the heads up - will avoid

Green Lantern -agreed, I enjoyed it too despite the shite reviews

Thor - Really enjoyed Thor depending on mood would go so far to say best of the Marvel Films, but then some days I say Captain America or Iron Man.

The Devil's Double - Must see film, exactly what I thought it would be. Dominic Cooper and that smile and teeth - funny. Supposed to be a true story - the real bloke lives in Ireland now - depending on what press you read - biggest liar ever - or biggest balls to put up with what he did.

Final Destination 5 - I was just numb through this - would only recommend if bored. Not crap - just nothing different.

Unknown - This the Liam Neeson one? Yeah good, but reminds me of Taken, which I enjoyed more.

Killer Elite - Was about to d/l - will hold off.

Mega mind - Enjoyed this - liked the whole plot twist about the "hero".

Paul - Weakest of the 3 (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead)

Inbetweeners - Average, big fan of the TV show, had enough funny moments, but just not like the TV show.

Here's some others I've seen:

Immortals - er, worth a watch, not great, not completely crap - save for a bored weekend.

Drive - I really enjoyed this - but I wasn't expecting much as I know it was low budget indie etc. Worth a watch - keep an open mind - don't expect action as the trailer makes out - it isn't an action film

As you mentioned Mega Mind - try Despicable Me; I enjoyed that too.

Real Steel - seriously, watch it - yes - its a kids film, its a cross of Rocky and some kids robot film but seriously I bloody enjoyed it. It's actually a good film.

Contagion - meh, but gives you an idea of how fast a animal virus that mutates to humans could so fuck us all up - science in the film all based on fact - so frightening - just watch it for that

Cowboys and Aliens - er, James Bonds a cowboy - not great but will do on a boring weekend

Rise of the Apes - Enjoyed this, thought it was really good, effects amazing - stopped just as I thought it was getting into gear

Colombiana - ok, worth a watch just to see Zoe Saldana is tight fitting clothes

Sucker Punch - Got slated - box office flop - but one of my favourite films. I think this was wrongly advertised - yes young girls in tight fitting outfits and school girls uniforms, yes big guns and fighting giant robot samurai - advertised as an action film but not what the film is about at all.

Limitless - I enjoyed good film worth a watch - doesn't look like it will be a good film but it just is.

Apollo 18 - I so wanted this to be good - the whole premise had me going - for some reason I was just bored - 1st viewing I fell asleep 30 mins in, 2nd viewing same thing, 3rd viewing - bored bored bored.

The Hangover Part 2 - so wanted this to be good, basically just a scene for scene makeover of part 1 but in Thailand - funny moments - can't touch part 1

Captain America - defo watch - not as good as Thor, but just enjoy it.

Conan the Barbarian - shit - nuff said

sucker punch - agreed, liked it immensely and it wasn't just the wardrobe department that won me over.

the thing - a remake prequel, it pays appropriate homage to the original, repeats the stand out scenes from the original and the bits it adds in frankly fit the story quite well so no complaints from me. Im equally happy with both the original and this remake even if they pretend its a prequel

apollo 18 - did the same switched off was pants

fast and furious 5 - fuck vin diesel got fat and that was about as good as it got. i dont rate him as some great actor but i generally enjoyed his action roles, just hoping hes burnt off the extra pounds for the next Riddick outting

Forgot about The Thing - agree with your assessment - exact copy but fitted in nicely with the start of the original.

F&F5 - Riddick will be shite. F&F5 wasn't too bad, better then all the rest except the original.

Got Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy to watch

9 is good, I am number 4 was bad........way way bad

Attack the Block - an ok film - but ffs stop promoting inner city youths committing crime as cool - I would have liked this more if the aliens wiped out the whole estate

The Town - if you haven't seen it - one of my favourite Boston / Irish Gang / Mob films

Tron Legacy - enjoyable, good effects. Brings some closure to the Tron film.

X-men First Class - really enjoyable - good film.

Stake Land - vampires - crossing the country, everyone out for themselves, bleak future - good film. Low budget by hollywood standards but very good gritty film.

True Grit - Love the film seen it several times now and I'm a big Duke fan.

Source Code - worth a watch - good premise
